  PRESS RELEASES

04/30/07 - Ready Set Go! RRC Mammo Mamma teams up with Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Radiology Regional Center physicians and employees raced to fight breast cancer at the inaugural Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Southwest Florida on March 17. The race was held behind the Coconut Point Mall in Estero. Our team, “Mammo Mama,” had 27 members that raised a total of $1,989. As a whole, Komen raised $430,000 for the entire event.

“This event was such a huge success,” said Bonnie Olson, Executive Director of the Southwest Florida chapter of the

Komen Foundation. “Our goal was $250,000 and we surpassed that because of all the hard work from our volunteers and participants.”

Participants could run a timed 5K race, a 5K walk or a one-mile “fun walk.” The money raised goes to the local chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation based in Bonita Springs. Up to 75 percent of the net proceeds will remain at the local level to fund a variety of community-based breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment projects for the medically underserved. A minimum of 25 percent of net proceeds will support the Komen Foundation Award and Research Grant Program.

RRC was a $2,500 Bronze sponsor for the race. The marketing department worked the sponsor booth to help promote the new Estero office.

Next year’s Race for the Cure will be held on March 1, 2008 at the same location.
